My name is John Moyle, and this is my personal web site. It consists of some blogs and a couple of works in progress which may some day become books or may just remain narrow topic blogs. Most of what I post here is also posted on Google+ You are welcome to read whatever is here and comment if you like.

I spent the first sixty five years of my life watching, listening to, and participating in the Felini inspired circus we call American society. After those sixty years I find no more to be optimistic about than was there at the beginning. On the other hand, I don't find much to be less optimistic about either, and given that, I feel encouraged. After the serious social and political crises we have managed to survive while under the guidance of the assorted crooks, liars, and grievously incompetent nincompoops whose blundering we reward with re-election to public office, there may be a livable world left for the generations to come--we might even safely assume that there will be generations to come.

This web site contains some of my thoughts on what I have seen. Some of this material is political. Some is on economics, globalization, human rights, and American society and culture. Some is just off-the-wall ideas on all sorts of topics. And some is at least intended to be humorous. I leave it to you to decide what is humor and what is not. That way if you are especially offended by something you read, you can simply assume it is a failed attempt at humor and be done with it.

ALMOST READY Election Watch I am weary of elections campaigns that make little effort to enlighten the voters and spend a great deal of money on bamboozlement. This blog is my modest attempt to track what the candidates have to say on their positions on the issues that people actually care about.

I do not track what candidates have to say about each other unless their criticisms amount to a statement of their alternative solution, and I consider President Obama one of the candidates.

I do track candidate's statements for consistency with their own previous statements, and I do make an attempt to check statements against facts or positions held by professionals in a given field.

I do try to find whatever authorities or sources a candidate might have cited in support of his or her views, even though my experience is that most of the time candidates like to flatter the voter by making him the authority, as in "As you know, global warming is just a theory."

The Prodigal Yooper I was born and raised in Marquette County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, also called the U.P. and people there refer to themselves as Yoopers. I've lived most of my life in the regular United States, and this blog is my reports back to the folks up north on what society and the culture is like down here and written in my alien perspective.
